Een speciale manier van onderdelen maken is het werken met (giet)mallen. Deze kunnen gemaakt worden op de CNC freesmachine of op de 3D printer (of zelfs met wat goede wil met behulp van de laser). Vervolgens zijn er allerlei materialen gebruikt worden om onderdelen hierin te gieten voor productie van (kleine) series. Er zijn allerlei soorten rubbers, flexibele materialen of juist hele stevige.

Moulding and Casting

  Group assignment:
      Review the safety data sheets for each of your molding and casting materials
      Make and compare test casts with each of them
      Compare printing vs milling molds

  Individual assignment:
      Design a mold around the process you'll be using, produce it with a smooth surface finish, and use it to cast parts.
